My Story
What seemed like a normal Mother’s Day dinner changed in an instant. One minute, my brother was reaching for his glass of water, and the next, a wine glass shattered, cutting his wrist and severing arteries and tendons. Blood was everywhere, sirens were getting closer, and a life was on the line. From that moment, the sight of blood became a trigger that turned my world upside down.
Suddenly, things that used to be simple, like doctor's visits and getting my blood drawn, became what seemed like far from possible. For reasons most people didn’t understand, I found myself always thinking about my last appointment and the panic that occurred. After my brother’s accident, I would collapse in my mom's arms during appointments especially when needles were about to go into my arm or vein. My brain was trapped by the thought that if I passed out before, I would again. Moving to a new state and starting at a new school only made things worse. I became terrified of being the "new kid" and facing new environments, and even simple fire drills would trigger anxiety attacks, reminding me of that traumatic day.
As I got older, I realized my anxiety wasn’t going away on its own. It was something I had to face, but I found ways to manage it. After countless times of searching through my mom’s purse for the tools I needed to calm down, I had an idea: what if there was a small, easy-to-carry emergency kit with everything I needed in one place? Something I could grab in those moments of struggle, to help calm my nerves and regain strength.
That’s what sparked my idea of creating Wipe Out Anxiety Packs to provide others with the tools that helped to ease my anxiety and will hopefully help ease theirs. These packs are designed to give people the comfort and support they need when they need it most. My hope is to help others face their toughest moments with a little more confidence and a lot less worry.
